Leadership:

Since my sophomore year I have been a Captain and Secretary on the Penn State Club Track Team. I work mostly with the sprinters on the team creating workouts that fit our athletes’ needs, as well as motivating and advicing athletes on topics like nutrient timing. Both my sophomore and junior year our women’s team placed second overall, barely missing first, at nationals with a fraction of girls that other teams competing had.

Olympic Weightlifting is a sport that incorporates two highly athletic lifts. The first being snatch and the second being clean and jerk. I got into this sport as a way to work on speed and power in track but ended up loving it as much as I love track, so I compete in this as well! In 2015 I qualified and represented Penn State at University Nationals. Due to this sport being highly weight sensitive I have been able to help many of my teammates cut and gain weight properly for competition in a way that optimizes their performance.

2015 was Battlefrog Obstacle Course Race's first ever collegiate championship.  I was one of 2 women and 2 men competitors chosen to represent Pennsylvania State University. Battlefrog fully sponsored us to travel and compete in Orlando, Florida for a 3 day competition against 15 other schools from around the country. For the race all four of us worked together to strategically place our teammates in places they would thrive most. Sadly after making it past the preliminary rounds we were beat out by NAVY (who ended up winning it all). It was an incredible experience testing all of our mental and physical abilities.

As a teaching assistant for a food chemistry lab I supervised a 40 person cooking class, demonstrating proper knife skill as well as enforcing kitchen safety and sanitation. While supervising in the kitchen, I encouraged students to try new cooking techniques as well as different foods. Outside of class I was in charge of recording and entering grades for all students in the class.

The College of Health and Human Development has a freshman camping trip to get new students acclimated to college the weekend before school starts called Jump Start. After participating and loving the experience, I applied and was accepted to be a Jump Start Leaders. As a leader I helped organize the 3 day camp events in order to motivate students to get involved on campus and helped mentor students on how to have a successful first year. I absolutely loved getting to motivate and mentor students to step outside of their comfort zones. I still mentor some of these students today!

The Edith Pitt Chace Award recognizes outstanding leaders and scholars in the college of Health and Human Development. In Spring 2015, I was the recipient of this award for my work in The Metabolic Kitchen and Children’s Eating Behavior lab. I was nominated by Dr. Kathleen Keller, the Assistant Professor that oversees the lab. I received this award after working in lab the previous two years as a research assistant to three different studies involving children’s food choice, social economics and the portion size effect. These are pictures from the award ceremony with the people who have been most influential to me at Penn State!

My sophomore year at Penn State I helped to facilitate a Meals on Wheel Silent Auction. I worked on team of five students to help sell and promote items in the auction as well as assisted people to their seats upon arriving. After the auction I aided in the organization and accounting of all money and ticket sales.

As a manager at the Jewelry Source, a family business, for the last six years I have obtained a wide range of knowledge on how small business run and the importance quality customer service. When I am working there, I spend most of my time working one-on-one with customers to help them design custom pieces of jewelry as well as communicate with vendors regarding orders. Yearly, I help to conduct and document inventory of all jewelry in stock as well as train new employees. Lastly, I have learned how to properly field complaints that are brought to our attention while exploring solutions in order to satisfy customers.

Phi Kappa Phi is an invite only honor society for Seniors that are in the top 7.5% of their class. I have been a member since January 2016.
